The Westchester County Youth Council Youth Action Training

By Emiliano Juarez

The Westchester County Youth Council is a group of middle schoolers and high schoolers; the JYC (Junior Youth Council) and the SYC (Senior Youth Council), that actively work hard to participate in a wide range of discussions and host events, contribute to community service, and volunteer for many other organizations while simultaneously expanding their knowledge of social justices.

The WCYC is very unique to individuals who are willing to engage in discussions that involve race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, nationality, ethnicity, you name it! There are many passionate students in this group that all help and aid in many social justice causes in Westchester County and the world. On regular non-COVID years, the WCYC would have weekly meetings on Wednesdays or Thursdays with compliments of pizza to keep us engaged in discussions. Due to COVID, all of their meetings have been held on zoom.

The WCYC is hosting an event that will be youth-led by high schoolers. This is a youth action training for students who want to learn more about social disparities, public health, architecture, civic engagement, and many more topics. There will be a wide range and a variety of presenters, but overall it is a fun time. The youth action training will be held on zoom, and there is a registration that needs to be completed. This event will take place on Saturday June 5th from 1:00-5:00 p.m; mark your calendars!

This youth action training will be a unique opportunity and experience to develop your knowledge in areas you may not know about. It also helps expose many youth to issues that they face now and helps youth have conversations that are somewhat taboo to some adults. So come join the WCYC, and have a great time at this event!
