On April 19th, the White Plains High School National Honor Society Chapter celebrated its over 200 junior and senior members in a joint induction and graduation ceremony. The event included opening remarks from NHS officers and club advisor Ms. Melcher, as well as brief speeches by Principal Doherty and the Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Ricca. Members and their families also enjoyed a performance by the WPHS Honors String Ensemble, conducted by Mr. May. The 106 junior inductees received NHS pins, while the 107 senior graduates received cords to be worn at their upcoming graduation ceremony in June.
NHS membership is a great accomplishment for all invited to join and members are expected to demonstrate the national organization’s four pillars: scholarship, service, leadership and character. Additionally, members must complete a minimum of sixty hours of service per year and maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.7. Students are invited to join NHS in the fall of their junior year and if all requirements are met, are inducted in the spring. Once inducted, senior members are graduated from the chapter at the same spring ceremony. Congratulations to all of this year’s inductees and graduates on this impressive honor!
