Struggling Academically? Extended Day Program Up & Running

By Geremy Garcia

Have you ever gotten a grade you were not happy with? Have you ever felt lost in a class, and did not know what to do? Have you ever felt too shy to raise your hand and ask the teacher for extra help? Do not worry, WPHS has got you covered! There is a program that is currently helping students with raising their grades in their classes and offering extra help to those who need it. Wondering what it is? It is the Extended Day Program here at White Plains High School! You heard it here folks! Extra help is being offered in your school and it happens just right after regular school hours end.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the Extended Day Program offers help in a variety of subjects from AP World History, Algebra, Chemistry, ENL (English as a New Language), Living Environment, and Geometry! If you think that was not enough, and are wondering, “What if I need to study for my SAT or ACT Test that will determine my future in a college/university?” we have got your back too! Starting as of November 18, 2021, there will be SAT/ACT Prep offered in the Extended Day Program as well (Thursdays only).

I was able to interview Mr. Torres, a teacher working with the extended day program. Here is what he had to say:

How does it feel to work in the Extended Day Program? Did you volunteer, or were you forced?

Mr. Torres: I volunteered to do it because I feel like Math is fun to learn and I love helping kids by making a difference in their lives.

When did you first start in the Extended Day Program?

Mr. Torres: This is my first time. Tuesday, October 26, 2021, was my first day.

Do you think the Extended Day Program really helps students to learn more and succeed in their subjects?

Mr. Torres: I feel that my goal from now until the end of the year is to make sure that every student overcomes their struggles, and strengthens their knowledge in every subject, especially Algebra, since I teach it.

Classes are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:45-3:45. Snack and transportation are also provided. Click here to fill out the registration form: https://forms.office.com/r/PLafA5TR6g
