Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s “Student of the Year'' Campaign

By: Lauren Azrin

Join “Visions for a Victory” in working towards their goal of raising $35,000 during the next 7 weeks for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) “Student of the Year'' campaign!

Over a million Americans are currently battling blood cancers, and Leukemia still causes more deaths than any other type of cancer for children under the age of 20. White Plains High School students’ campaign team “Visions for a Victory” has been nominated for this exciting LLS fundraising challenge, with the opportunity to join the battle and help those living with blood cancers.

The LLS is known for funding groundbreaking research to find treatments and cures for cancer and is one of the largest blood cancer research donors. They have helped more than 55,000 patients afford treatment and have invested 1.3 billion into cancer research.

Participation in this campaign is meant to honor those who have battled blood cancers, raise money for LLS to improve the quality of life of blood cancer patients and their families, raise awareness about the impact of blood cancers, and inspire others to join the fight to find a cure.

The campaign’s title, “Student of the Year,” is in honor of William Cervinka, a 6th-grader living in Port Chester who is currently in remission after bravely overcoming his four-year battle with Leukemia. LLS helped him in his fight against the disease, and they hope his story and his courage serve as motivation for their campaign.

To donate online, you can visit the “Visions for a Victory” fundraising webpage, https://events.lls.org/ctwhv/CTWHVSOY21/vvictory. The deadline for donations is March 11th.
