"Here We Go Again"

By Taliyah Lowe

Hands on the dash.

Talk slow.

Yes officer, no officer.

Tell them what you are going to do, before you do it.

Our blackness is seen as a target.

We are outraged.

For centuries we have been suppressed.

We are heartbroken.

Nobody understands our pain.

Trayvon Martin.

Eric Garner.

Mike Brown.

Philando Castile.

Stephon Clark.

Amaud Arbery.

George Floyd.

The list goes on.

How many names will it take for this to stop?

What does it have to take for people to see that we are apart of the same race.

The human race.

This country was built on prejudice and power and will continue to be.

I hope that I live to see the day that change starts.

“Are you listening”?

My dad asks.

Hands on the dash.

Talk slow.

Say yes officer, no officer.

Tell them what you are going to do, before you do it.

“I got it dad”. I say.

This is my reality.

What is yours?
