Field Hockey: Team Looks Ahead after Tough Sectional Loss

By Saumya Sawant

On Saturday, October 23rd, 2021, at 2 p.m. the White Plains Tigers faced the John Jay East-Fishkill Patriots. Despite numerous efforts from the team, the Tigers lost the game 4-0 and will subsequently not be advancing into the sectional quarter-finals. Putting up a fierce fight in the 1st Quarter, the team managed to keep the Patriots at bay with a 0-1 score, though the 3rd Quarter proved to be disastrous for the Tigers as the Patriots scored 2 out of the 4 total goals they would make in the game.

“I feel like as a team, we had a really strong game and improved on a lot of things that we had to work on,” says Captain Sophia Emmert. “As a team, John Jay worked really well together but we can only improve from this year so we’ll be back next year to take our win!”

Captain  Joely  O’Rourke, who is a graduating senior, agrees with Sophia. “We may have lost,” she says, “but we had a positive atmosphere throughout the game and made it a memorable last game for me as a senior, and I am happy to say that I was a captain for this year’s varsity team.”

“Although we lost to a strong John Jay East-Fishkill, I am still proud of our team, ” Coach Amanda Grant says when asked about the team’s performance. “John Jay East-Fishkill went on to play Scarsdale and only lost 1-0 in overtime. We will miss our seniors as they were great leaders this year. But we look forward to improving for next year!”

Semi-finals took place Friday, October 29th. Sectional Finals will be taking place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 31st at the Lakeland Highschool.
