Bored over School Breaks? Don’t Worry, There’s So Much to Do!

By Amber Lau

As we approach the last week of school before the holiday vacation, there is so much spirit in the air. From wearing ugly sweaters and pajamas to school to enjoying a fun Holiday Bazaar, White Plains High School always has a great way to celebrate the holidays. As the festivities increase, the schoolwork begins to wind down, and everybody gets ready for the long-awaited holiday break. However, with this time off and extra time to rest and have fun, boredom comes along. Here are some fun ideas to try over any school break that are inexpensive and easy.

This first idea is the most obvious. Spending time with friends and family over vacation is a must do. When we are swamped with school and work, it is so difficult to find time to make new memories with the people we care about, and breaks are the perfect excuse to catch up with loved ones. Another simple, but maybe not as fun idea, is catching up on missing schoolwork. This may seem like a horrible way to spend your vacation, but being productive, even for short amounts of time, can make you feel great.

School breaks are also an amazing way to try new things that you’ve always wanted to. So, consider trying new hobbies such as painting or learning a new instrument. You can also learn to cook or bake, which is a very useful skill for the future. The best part of this is you can enjoy your delicious work afterwards and share with friends and family. Another great thing to consider doing over break is exercising. Whether you are playing sports or going on a hike, it is very important to keep active and stay healthy. Going on a hike is an awesome idea because it is a simple and inexpensive way to raise your heart rate as well as enjoy the outdoors. Plan a fun day outdoors with your friends or family, and you can catch up and enjoy nature while you're at it.

Finally, we get to the most relaxing ideas of all. Who doesn’t just love to sit back, listen to music, and read a good book? Put together a playlist that makes you feel calm, put on some pajamas, lie down on a comfy couch, and read a book that you have had your eyes on for a while.

Whatever you choose to spend your vacation doing, be sure to stay safe and have fun. If you feel lonely or you just need someone to talk to, reach out for help from a trusted adult like a parent or guidance counselor. Happy holidays, Tigers!
