This month’s Player Spotlight goes to John Myers. Myers is currently on the Varsity Ice Hockey team at White Plains High School. John has been surrounded by the sport his whole life. He was just six years old when he joined the Plainsmen, a travel ice hockey team, and has played for them ever since. His dedication, commitment, and skill on the ice was clear, and after playing on modified for just one year as a 7th grader, he was selected to play on the White Plains High School varsity team in 8th grade as a starter.
Myers’s life revolves around hockey. His love and enthusiasm for hockey along with the support of his family has made him the player he is today. When asked about how he balances life and hockey, Myers said, “Hockey is a huge commitment. It has forced me to make many sacrifices when it comes to social opportunities and free time on the weekend, but in the end the hard work and the hours I’ve spent on the ice makes it worth it.”
He is fortunate to have had the support of his dad throughout his entire hockey career. According to Myers, his dad has been his coach his whole life and taught him everything he knows about hockey. Myers is surrounded by a team of talented players at White Plains High School who push him to be his best every day. His incredible speed and skill on the ice is evident--John has 51 career goals, 29 of which were scored this year as a sophomore. In a recent game against Monroe Woodbury, Myers scored 2 goals, earning his 100th point for his varsity ice hockey career. Myers intends to continue his ice hockey career in college, but for now we're proud to call him a White Plains TIGER!
