As there are only a few months left until the 2023 Grammy Awards, it is finally time to announce the nominees for music’s biggest event.
Several show stopping albums were released within the eligibility period of October 2021 to September 2022. Some of these albums include Beyoncé’s “Renaissance,” Kendrick Lamar’s “Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers,” Bad Bunny’s “Un Verano Sin Ti,” Harry Styles’s “Harry’s House,” and more. Surprisingly, Silk Sonic, Drake, and The Weeknd did not submit their albums (“An Evening With Silk Sonic,” “Honestly, Nevermind” and “Dawn FM,” respectively), although they were each critically acclaimed and commercially successful albums.
This year's nominees were led by Beyoncé, who received a total of nine nominations for her album "Renaissance” and her song "Be Alive," from the film “King Richard.” Jay-Z and Beyoncé have tied for the most Grammy nominations in Grammy history, with 88 each. Kendrick Lamar was the next best nominated artist with eight nods, followed by Adele and Brandi Carlile with seven each.
Additionally, it is the first time a Spanish-language album has been nominated for Album of the Year, as Bad Bunny, 28, of Puerto Rico, was nominated for his hit album “Un Verano Sin Ti.” Besides album of the year, he is also nominated for Best Música Urbana Album and Best Pop Solo Performance for “Moscow Mule.”
BTS continues to shine as they earn recognition in the Grammy Awards. In addition to securing the Best Music Video nomination for their song “Yet to Come” that is primarily in Korean, the South Korean boy band is also competing for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “My Universe,” which was a collaboration with Coldplay.
As a final note, the Best New Artist award is up for grabs among an extremely diverse group of talented artists. Solo musicians like the rapper Latto, Brazilian singer Anitta, and heartthrob Omar Apollo are all nominated. Duos and groups like the indie rock band Wet Leg, the jazz duo DOMi and JD Beck, and Eurovision winner Måneskin are also eligible to win this award.
